7. What happens in case of bad weather?

If the weather is not suitable for boating, your reservation can be canceled or rescheduled at no extra cost. Safety is always a top priority. All changes are coordinated directly through Chania Boats Rental.

8. What is the maximum distance I can travel with a boat without a license?

Usually for boats without a license,you can travel  up to 7 nautical miles from the starting point one way – meaning to that distance towards your destination and the same distance again to return. The exact limit depends on the area, the boat type, and instructions from the port authority. Chania Boats Rental will brief you on your safe zone before departure.

9. How dangerous is it to rent a boat without a license or experience?

Renting a boat without a license is safe as long as you follow safety rules and don’t overestimate your abilities. You must stay at least 300–400 meters away from all shores and avoid dangerous maneuvers or reckless behavior. Chania Boats Rental will train and advise you on best practices for safe boating.

10. Are there age restrictions for boat rental?

The boat operator must be at least 18 years old. Passengers can be from 2 years old and above, or younger with prior arrangement. 

11. Is fuel included in the rental price?

 Fuel is usually not included. The customer is responsible for consumption, but refueling is handled by Chania Boats Rental for your convenience. We can also provide an estimated fuel cost in advance based on the route you plan to follow, so you can better plan your budget.

12. Do the boats have sunshades?

Yes, all boats are equipped with sunshades to provide protection from the sun and enhance comfort during your trip. All vessels at Chania Boats Rental include this as standard. However, we strongly recommend that you bring sunscreen with you for extra protection during the hours under the Cretan sun. 

13. What should I bring with me on the boat?

We recommend sunscreen, towels, sunglasses, and plenty of water. Alcohol consumption is not allowed for the skipper. If you wish to bring alcohol, it must be in very small quantities.

Naturally, the skipper must not drink at all — the same legal rules apply as for car driving. Chania Boats Rental promotes responsible boating at all times.

14. What is the duration of the rental?

We offer half-day rentals (4 hours) and full-day rentals (8 hours). For private cruises with a skipper, the duration depends on the chosen route and the agreement made during the booking. 

15. Can we stop somewhere for food?

Yes, there are places where you can stop depending on your route and the boat category. Options include taverns – beach bars. Chania Boats Rental will suggest great spots and adjust your route accordingly.

16. Can we go anywhere with the boat?

There are suggested routes and safety limits depending on the boat category. No-license boats have limited range, while licensed boats provide more freedom. Chania Boats Rental will explain your options in detail before departure.

17. How can we reach your location?

We are located at the small harbor of Nea Chora, in Chania. Parking is available both inside the harbor and along the nearby streets. We always send you our exact GPS location via message. Chania Boats Rental will guide you every step of the way.

18. What do we need to bring to complete the rental?

The skipper must bring an ID or passport. For boats that require a license, a valid boating license is mandatory. Payment can be made in cash or by card. All rentals are processed through Chania Boats Rental.

If the violation is due to the skipper’s actions (dangerous maneuvers, approaching shore too closely, speeding), the customer is 100% responsible.
